Savitri
It is with immense pleasure that we announce our return to the stage, with an interpretation of Holst’s rarely performed opera, Savitri.
An epic of love and death, Savitri entails the power of a woman’s devotion towards rescuing her husband from his fated death. Pagrav Dance Company will be joined by Britten Sinfonia and Sir Mark Elderat the Barbican Centre of performing arts.
The performance, choreographed by Urja Thakore (creator of the critically acclaimed ‘Kattam Katti’), will be set on Holst’s compositions of hymns from one of Hinduism’s most important works, the Rig Veda. Accompanied with music by Grace Williams and Benjamin Britten, as well as Jaqueline Shave’s long standing duo with tabla virtuoso Kuljit Bhamra, Pargrav Dance Company brings this ancient story to life.
